Here is a short slideshow of last weeks demo. One of my students brought a painting in and asked me to worked on it. We decided to take it a different direction. Taking out the sky and adding trees in the background. We talked about making area recede and changing the way the light moved through the painting. Need a few finally touches. I can talk about that this week. Take a look if you have a chance. Let me know if you have questions,

"Welcome to Midtown" Made it to the AJC
You just never know who will see you when you're out and about painting the town. What a fun surprise to find my painting on the front of the Living Section today. I really love the improvement around Colony Square. The brightly colored letter are super cool and I like watching how people interact with them. A fun day of painting!!

Despite the rain - it was a great plein air event!
The Stone Mountain Plein Air Event was a success. Over 50 artists turned out to compete on this rainy day. I admit, I really struggled trying to capture the grays. What a challenge, it really shows me this is an area I really need to work on. Well, after struggling all day a rushing backt o the art center - with only 2 minuets to spare, I was happy to be awarded 2nd place and a purchase award! My painting is now in the permanent collection of the Art Station!
Above is a photo of me with my painting, " A Day in the Park" 12 x 16 and my two awards. What wonderful conclusion to a rainy day.
My inspiration for the paint out. It was so rainy, I had to find a covered spot to paint from. |
Summer travels and fall shows
My painting has taken a new direction this year and I'm happy to say, it was well received at my art shows. Above are a few of my favorites that found new homes. It's always a rewarding experience, but these, I'll miss. Time to get back in the studio!
SUMMER ON THE ROAD -
after spending
much of the summer traveling, it's great to get back home and regroup. I had a wonderful time painting, learning, making new friends and catching up with friends I only see once a year. I hit the upper Adirondacks in June and then Mystic CT, Mount Gretna PA, then on to Cary NC - and can you believe the weather was perfect?

Class party and new projects
Can't believe spring quarter is coming to an end!
Rob made his savory gumbo for the last class. He makes it all from scratch and it's a real treat. It ended up turning into a real party and we all had a great time! I know it doesn't look like any painting is getting done, but there was a little progress tonight before the food came out.
Part of the fun in taking an ongoing class is getting to know everyone and having a little fun!
This is the first or my shabby-sheik painting racks.
It should hold at least 10 canvases up to 2" high.
I've limited my self to just one building project a quarter. Otherwise I'd never get any painting done!
Over this break I'm going to build storage / drying racks for the class. These will go in the kitchen and I'm hoping these will add enough storage space to accommodate everyone. And...well, if I get enough time, I'd really like to build a few more of my second generation studio tables. They've been a big hit in the classes and they save a lot of space as well.
It's come a long way since this summer. Now that the class rooms are finished, time to tackle the kitchen.
About time! I finally updated my art page!
Cheers! - Dawn

This course emphasizes artistic development in a relaxed and fun studio environment with a variety of music to keep you motivated. You will work on your own projects, using any medium you choose, You are encouraged to pursue individual interests and further develop your unique style. Self expression is the joy of painting. My goal is to help you get the art inside you on to the canvas through guidance, motivation and demonstrations of techniques. There will be class demos as well as individual assistance. Bring your painting supplies and reference materials to the first class sessions and be prepared to work. This is an on going class that offers a lot of flexibility for the students. You can always make up missed classes. If you know you will miss a few classes, just sign up for 4 weeks and come any time over the 8 week class.
Be a part of it, ongoing students are invited to participate in the 11 annual art show at Binders. Please contact the instructor with any questions about materials and what to bring for the first class. This class is open to all students regardless of your level of training or ability. Beginners welcome. You can leave your materials in the studio while taking classes. Tables, chairs, and storage shelves are available. If you work on an easel, you’ll need to bring your own. I do have a few extras, but I can’t guarantee one for every class.
