Happy New Year!!!!
Well, 2019 has arrived, and it’s time to start making plans for the New Year.
Have you been thinking about painting classes? I still have room in the Wednesday morning guided classes beginning Jan 9th, while the Tuesday evening classes, beginning Jan 8th, are wait list only. Each class series will begin again in early March. So, if you missed this series, make sure to sign up early for March. Private lessons are also available. Find more details here
Keep a look out for plein air events in the spring as well. I will be teaching a free class in Eatonton GA in early April, but I do plan to schedule a few more outings as well. More details to come and keep checking my website.
I wish you all a healthy and happy New Year!!
Get There in Style!
Sketching out new bicycle paintings always makes me happy. I have a friend in The Hauge that allows me to paint from his awesome photos. You really should check out his work. It Kevin McPeake at Haagse Fiests Chic https://www.facebook.com/haagsefietschic/ It would be a cool adventure if we could arrange a show together.
There are so many great bicycle painting I want to paint, I'm trying to be fast and furious and paint one in a day and at least one a week!. Go check out Kevin's site and see if you can pick out the photos I'm using for references..
Still time to sign up for classes!
I have room for one more in the Wed morning class and 1 for the 5 week session on Tuesday nights. Join me if you can. Classes start this week!
Favorite Subject For Painting
I love painting scenes of cyclists. I guess it makes me feel the joy of being out on two wheels while working in the studio! Here I'm using a photo by my friend and great photographer Kevin McPeake for my inspiration. You can check out his work on Facbook
I loved this photo when I saw it: love the diffused light and the mystery in the fog. I painted this image about a year ago ( middle image ), but decided to give it another try and work on the grays a little differently. Here's the second attempt ( the image on the right). I was a little bolder with the reds. Although it similar to the first painting, this one feel more like night time to me.
Just in the Nick of Time
The frame just came in and I'll be able to deliver this commission tomorrow - Yay!!! We were down to the last minutes, but I'm so happy I'll be able to deliver before Christmas.
I've been working closely with the family on this projects, but it just took time to get all the decisions ironed out. It's always worth taking it slow to make sure it's a painting they love and I'm glad we didn't rush.
Now I look forward to taking a few days to spend with family.
Happy Holidays!

Studio Tip: What do you get when you cross a paper towel roll and a saw?
I was tired of wasting paper towels in the studio or being to cheap to get a clean one, so I thought I'd try cutting a role down in the shop. By cutting the roll into three sections, I have the perfect size to clean my brushes and knives without waste! Hallelujah Why did it take me so long to come up with this??
Cheers, Dawn
